Kansas Eastern RR: items hauled & frequency
Posted by caboose63 on Friday, January 15, 2016 1:25 PM

Can anyone tell me about the shortlived Kansas Eastern Railroad which ran from Augusta to Fredonia in Kansas? I know it was part of the Southeast Kansas & Oklahoma, i believe. How frequent or infrequent was it operated? What businesses were served by the shortline?

To your questiion: The KERR was abandoned as a Branchline of the SLSF RR about in easrly 2000's(?).  It was a line from the Northern area of Wichita,Ks to Fredonia,Ks. Route was via Andover, Augusta,Leon,Beaumont ( Where there is a SLSF water tank, (preserved) on to Severy, and Fredonia. The route rooughly parallels US 400 and the former ROW can be observed through the Flint Hills as one travels the highway. See this link for the abandoned route @ http://www.abandonedrails.com/Wichita_to_Fredonia
