When I send a private message, there is no bar to select fonts, or sizes, italics, icons, etc.. Also, the message prints without paragraph breaks, so I appear to be a raving maniac foaming at the mouth. Can anybody tell me if I have some setting set weird that would cause that problem?
Thanks to Chris / CopCarSS for my avatar.
I think we are ALL "raving maniac's, foaming at the mouth"... why should you be left out?
Well... actually I have sent you a private message and I see a gray area at the top of the txt box to type the message in that has font and formating tools and I could do paragraphing. So maybe you do have something set odd... what OS is your computer? What browser are you using? Could be a bazillion silly things causing it, and some of them might be under your control. Need more info.

MacOS 10.9 using Safari and I have the editing controls in the message editor.
And what's more surprising, I find that Spell Czech works in the message editor even though it is completely MIA in the post editor.
Go figure.
PMed this to Murph and copied and pasted it into the post editor.
First, thanks to Semper Vaporo, Wizlish, and schlimm who sent me PM's. I forgot to add- talk to me like I'm 4. I really am that computer illiterate. I don't know what browser I'm using or what series of windows something. I have teenagers who set things up for me as I really am that dumb. The three PM's sent to me all have the settings box, so that I may reply in bold living color if I wish. In poking around, I see that the problem seems to come and go, and doesn't seem to be dependent on whether I'm at work or at home. I guess I'll just have to break down and ask one of the kids.Son? Can you come look at something on the computer for a sec? Geez Dad! What did you screw up this time?

Doubtful that parsing alone can fix that one.
I am afraid that there are too many variables to shotgun a fix for you if we don't know the version of the OS and browser. I could try to lead you into figuring some of that out, but Microsoft has made slight and minor changes in the words and titles of things such that if you don't know what you are looking for it is difficult to find it if I use the wrong title or word. I might say to look in the upper right corner for something, but on your system it might have moved to the right end of the menu bar and will not necessarily be in the upper right corner. Plus, I am runing winders 10 and I don't fully remember how things were in windows 7 or XP and I only ran 8/8.1 for 3 hours before I jumped at the chance to upgrade to 10. Besides, I usually make massive changes to the layout and setup of "MY" desktop and such so what I see and what you see probably don't match at all.
I wish it were simpler that that, but reality is that it just isn't. I suggest that you call the kid and ask for help. (They may have altered the "default" setup anyway and may have installed some "helpers" and "apps" that could be the problem and none of us out here would have any idea what they are.
It might help if you were to make notes about what machine you are on and what programs you are running (what icons did you click on to run them, etc.) to help narrow down the cause of your problems.
Cornphewtors can certainly lead one to maniacal expressions and foaming of the mouth... I KNOW... I programmed them for a living for nearly 40 years and still battle with them in retirement just for fun and mental exercise!

I generally have all of the formatting options in both forum posts and PMs. Every now and then, though, I'll try to post a reply and what I'm typing will come out white on white - as in, I can't see what I'm typing.
I usually get it figured out, but it sure is frustrating...
At one point, I could program in almost a half dozen languages (Basic, Fortran, COBOL, RPG, Pascal). I can code HTML, too. I still enjoy solving a problem with a program, but with the loss of DOS, it's harder to run the host programs for writing those languages...
