N Scale CMX Track Cleaning Car

I have a N-Scale CMX Track Cleaning Car. In the instruction manual, page 3 under (B)(3) SOLVENT HANDLING AND FILLING: it says to draw 3CC solvent in syringe and transfer slowly through fill port, use from 4CC to 9CC.

1. Which amount is it?

Instruction Manual, page 4 (B)(6) it states: Adjust drip rate to about 10-15 drops pr minute or less. On the N-Scale version of this care there is an inverted "v" shapped spring between the drip hole and the pad. This prevents the user from getting a clean drop as the fluid runs down the spring.

2. Can you give any pointers on how to accomplish this?

We deal with 1:1 (12 inch to the foot) here for the most part.  You'll do much better over on the MR forum.

Hey, forget that N gauge stuff man, come over to the exciting world of O gauge!

Nothing beats the thundering majesty of O gauge trains tearing around the layout and shaking the house to it's foundation!

I have to wonder if some of the information in this PDF download from FOTEC might be something that he could adapt. 

He might have to use depleted uranium to keep the car on the rails, though.  It might be interesting to see whether the GE 'supersonic air' rail cleaning device could be built at very small scale although I would think -- as with lasers, or for that matter with T1 sanders -- that alignment with the railhead contact patch is really the most significant problem, not the removal technology itself.

Just for fun, here is the 1:1 GE ARC system in action, complete with its likely chief drawback (shared with the most effective kinds of full-active suspension albeit at different audio power spectra!)

In the OP's case, I suspect there might be problems with melting the ties and setting the ground cover on fire....

For 12" to the foot, it would take some pretty intense flame to be effective at 40 MPH...

In both cases ... the solution is a LASER.  (As opposed to the tired old Internet meme "I'm a'firin' mah lazer"...)

There are diode lasers and collimators that could give you the right delivered power even on finescale 1:160 track.  (But the net cost of the technology, even if you got 'evaluation samples' from the providers, might still be a little high, and the learning curve perhaps more than a little pyrophoric...Wink)

I'm sorry; I should specified that I was responding to the Adirondack Scenic's problem with undesirable things on the rails.Sad
