I was watching the Roanoke rail cam when I saw a strange unit train. The train was being pushed toward the yard complex and it consisted of an NS caboose and probably 50 or so forty foot flat cars with what appeared to be six small triangular structures in the car well. It was being pushed by two GM SD type diesels. Can anyone give me some information on this train?

Could have been coil cars, or could have been an empty welded rail train, with the caboose being used as a shoving platform (as it would be on a local) and for transporting track maintenance personel. Here are links to pictures of each:

Or an empty NS welded rail train (best photo I could find on RP.net):

And a model welded rail car:

Thanks "-2Dude". It appears now that I have seen the pictures it make sense that they are coil steel cars sans their covers.
Many thanks,

What you saw were brand new Versacoil cars only produced by Freightcar America. In which the coils are loaded transverse instead of inverse.
Thanks for the info MAC 9500. It makes sense when you see them from not so far away. I assume they were coming from the shop area at Roanoke.
