Hello everybody,

Although almost 200 of you have viewed this thread, I have decided to move this dicussion to the more specialized forum at www.jnsforum.com "Japanese Modeling & Japan Rail Enthusiasts Forum."  The new discussion is in "Off Topic" under "Japanese Train Info in English."

Thank you for your interest.  I am looking forward to everyone's suggestions and hope to contribute some of my own.

I just recently joined these forums, and I did not realize that I could "reply" to my own post.  I will give it a try.  (I am also having some computer problems, so please excuse me if this reply appears twice.)

I do have one English language book about Japanese Trains: "Early Japanese Railways 1853-1914" by Dan Free.  Tuttle 2008.  It has many interesting vintage photos.  I have read the first chapter, which was very good.  The writing is dense, so I have not had time to read further than that.  Have any of you read this book?  Could you post a short review?

Those of you who know some Japanese know that "railway" is written in Japanese as 鉄道.  Separately, these two characters mean "iron"and "road."

I am very interested in Japanese trains.  However, I have found only limited English language sources either online or in print.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you.  ありがとう。
