I wi***hat the tracks were still there[:(]. All of the tracks that went from Colorado Springs to Limon were abandoned about 10 years ago[:(][:(]. Since then they have all been pulled up and "Rails to Trails" has taken over portions of the grade. I will definitely check it out next time that I am down that way though.

I'm not sure if it is a chain or not, but while I was out in Falcon, Colorado last weekend trying to find the old Rock Island depot I did come across a Rock Island Restaurant. It just so happens that I took a picture of the sign too, what luck.

The reason that I'm not sure whether it is a chain or not is because it looked like a local "Mom & Pop" kind of place, but I didn't go in. Now I have a reason to go back and check it out.

No, this isn't an attempt to start some competition for our beloved Depot Diner!

On our trip to Michgan from Chicago yesterday, I noticed a sign (part of one of those "Food" signs preceding an exit) that mentioned a "Rock Island" restaurant. That was it--black lettering on a red background. We were not feeling all that adventurous on the way up (or had already eaten lunch), so we didn't exit and look it over. This sign was on eastbound I-94 in Indiana or Michigan, or possibly I-196 in Michigan. I tried to find a corresponding sign on the homeward trip this morning (and we would have checked it out!), but didn't see it.

Has anyone had any experience with this place (or a similar one, if it's a franchise)? Would it be worth getting off the road for?

Distantly related topic: in Michigan a new 20-mile stretch of expressway was opened today: M-6 enables people going from Holland to Lansing (or thereabouts) to bypass Grand Rapids--and save a few miles--by driving south of the city. It's also pretty close to GR's airport. From what I've seen, it is an impressive piece of highway (we left too early for the ribbon-cutting).
