I think saying it is the lowest operating ratio in company history is misleading. It might be the lowest first quarter OR for CP but not the lowest ever.

CP Q3 - 2014 OR was 62.8%, CP Q4 - 2014 - 59.3%.

I looked back to the 4th quarter 2005 for the class 1 railroads. I found 24 times there has been an OR better than the 63.2% the CP reported. 20 times it was CN, 2 - UP and the 2 above for CP. 6 times CN was under 60%.

Yup, that's why their shares popped today...up 3.78% on the day. But tomorrow they will likely be down again as the euphoria wears off and the day traders take profits.

CP Rail has a super year financially in this difficult winter quarter, including the lowest operating ratio in company history, not bad for a gringo, Hunter.
