I'll do it. Please come ride with us sometime. Bert was still with DNR when we had just started SAM SHORTLINE.

Hope to see you on the train!

Lee, I know Jimmy Carter rides the train occasionally which means you probably see him some. His cousin, Arthur French, was a long-time friend of my father, John Ellis, from their Navy days during WWII. Would you ask Jimmy if Arthur is still alive and write me at jockellis@aaahawk.com. My son and I went to Pennsylvania, where the Frenches used to live, to see the East Broadtop and I thought about him.

Not sure what you mean. Our regular runs are like local passenger trains. We work our way over the corridor with stops at the communities along the line. It is an 86 mile roundtrip on Sat., for instance. Layovers are offered for people to see the communities, museums and historic sites. For passengers not wanting to spend the whole day on the train, we allow them to board at any of the stops, even in tiny Leslie, which is a flag stop for us.

I thought the group might be interested in a couple of upcoming special trips the SAM SHORTLINE will be running out of Cordele, Georgia. These will be good opportunities to collect some rare mileage on an historic line as well as to get photographs in places we don’t usually go. See http://www.samshortline.com for additional information.

Monday, December 20, 2004—“Last Minute Shoppers’ Special” from Cordele to Vidalia, GA

Travel non-stop from Cordele to downtown Vidalia where you'll have two hours to shop and enjoy restaurants. While onboard, listen to a reading of The Polar Express and visit with Santa. Short train rides to the Oconee River Bridge will be available for $8 - $20. Train leaves Cordele at 8 a.m. and returns at 6:15 p.m. $17 - $22 children; $27 - $32 adults.

Friday, February 18 - Sunday, February, 20, 2005—“Presidents’ Day Special” from Cordele to Savannah, GA

Includes train ride from Cordele to Savannah, accommodations, a riverboat cruise with dining and dancing, historic district tour, shopping, optional ghost tour, and fabulous fried chicken at the famous Lady & Sons. Visit http://www.travelata.org for all the details.

I’ll be happy to answer any questions.

Thanks,

Lee
