looks like Al Krug's site has fallen off the internet. Anyone know if it was moved somewhere else? I'd like to get a copy of his fantastic HP vs Tractive Effort essay.

It would be a shame to lose that wonderful resource..
Larry Resident Microferroequinologist (at least at my house) Everyone goes home; Safety begins with you My Opinion. Standard Disclaimers Apply. No Expiration Date Come ride the rails with me! There's one thing about humility - the moment you think you've got it, you've lost it...
That's a real shame. The entire site was good - not only the technical "RR Facts & Figures", but his "Krug Tales" blog (with great photos, too). The whole thing ought to be archived someplace - perhaps in the "ABCs of Railroading" here ?

His Tales are still up at http://krugtales.50megs.com/.
Also, "North American Freight Train Brakes" by Al Krug at: http://www.railway-technical.com/brake2.shtml

FWIW, some of the site is available at the IA Wayback Machine:

Great ! Thanks much, Mike !
Word to the wise, after this 'near miss': Download and save or print the parts of it you like, in case it ever really goes away forever.
Good idea. I consider his opus on air brakes to be an excellent primer on the topic. If you read that and don't understand them....
Al's web site is working again: http://www.alkrug.vcn.com/home.html
.
Wow ... His last photo essay was was in 2005. I remember waiting for them like I do today for KP's updates.
