Currently at the time of this post we in Darwin are having a severe thunderstorm with 110kmp/h winds. Read this. IDDP0005

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING Number 1
Issued by BUREAU OF METEOROLOGY, DARWIN
at 7:19 pm CST Monday 15 NOVEMBER 2004

At 7:12 pm thunderstorms with the potential for damaging winds were observed on radar between Berry Springs and Lee Point moving towards the west.

The following areas may experience damaging wind gusts between now and the next hour:

Darwin River,
Berry Springs,
Palmerston,
Darwin,
Cox Peninsula,
Bynoe Harbour,
Dundee Beach.


Wind gusts to 110 kilometres per hour have
already been reported at Noonamah.

People in these areas are advised to secure loose outside objects and avoid remaining in the open when storms threaten.

This is NOT a cyclone warning.

The next Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued no later than 8:00 pm

This warning is also available on telephone 1300 659 214 or on the internet at www.bom.gov.au

At what wind speed would an engine / boxcar / tankcar be in danger of being blown off the track? [?] <insert "thinking" smiley here>

Maybe a boxcar may get blown over but there arent any up here (or down from where you are). Espeefoamer thats not funny considering that you might be living in Florida. I wonder what would happen to you. Not funny.

Unfortunately,when I first read this,it definately reminded
me way too much of this past May & June up here.

What does 110kmh equate to in mph? About 60? I remember one of my older Chevies having MPH with kmh in smaller numerals...forgot how it equated...Dave Williams
