And Google the specific RR, if you can't find it in the lists. Also Google for "Kansas Scanner" and "Kansas Frequencies". Might get some odd hits, but you might hit paydirt, too. Some scanner enthusiasts have built up some pretty good lists, many of which are indicative of actual activity on a frequency.

Plus, if you have channels available on the scanner when you finish with RR radio, you might want to listen to fire, cops, etc. Heck, the frequencies are available for fast food drive-thru's, if you care. "You want fries with that?" <Matt says yes!>

The Compendium Of Railroad Radio Frequencies by Landgraf and Sturm gives the radio frequencies used by the trunk line and the short line railroads in Kansas. This will allow you to assign a certain frequency to a given channel.

In general the railroads use frequencies between 160.185 Hz (AAR Channel 5) to 161.565 (AAR Channel 92) In addition all railroads except Norfolk Southern use 457.9375 Hz for the signal from the end-of-train monitors, however, all it tells you is a train is near. If you try to listen to it all you would hear is a squak

Some railfans program all of the railroad radio frequencies from 160.585 to 161.565 into their scanner with the lowest frquency assigned to the lowest number AAR channel, and increasing the frequency by 15 kHZ. for each increment in channel number until all frequencies are programmed into the scanner's memory.
