For those that are familiar with the Iron Bridge Railroad Overlook in Cassandra, Pa...midway between Altoona and Johnstown, you are probably also aware of D's Quickstop which is the Snackbar and Motel owned by John Shuniak, who has done much of the improvements up at the Overlook. I stopped by to see him several days ago and noticed some construction being done...Some of the displays in the snackbar were crowded up toward the front. John gave a few of us in the shop the details..He presently has 3 motel rooms, with a fourth about 50-75% completed. He plans on adding a fifth room where the snackbar is currently located. Now the question is, where does he fit the Giftshop/Snackbar once the motel rooms are completed? Well, by late 2005, John plans to have a second building constructed in a empty lot on the Railroad West side of the present building. There will be two floors. The first floor will be occupied with a expanded Giftshop and Snackbar with a refreshemnt window. The second floor will initially be an open space to allow for meetings and Railfan nights..slideshows and the like. His original building will be exclusively for Motel Rooms which will number five rooms. If business dictates, he will add additional motel rooms to the second floor of the new building. Business is doing good according to John, and he has had to turn away potential bookings due to being filled, so he sees the need for additional rooms....Good Luck John!
