CSX seems to have an awful lot of derailments compared to its competitor Norfolk Southern. I s this true? If so, what is the reason?

Yard derailments are common on any railroad, how many of them meet or exceed the FRA reporting threshold of $6200.00 ?

Cars bang together too hard and the rail turns sideways at the impact sight leaving one car on with a set of trucks on the ground. It's very ea***o rerail this common "derailment," and at minimal cost. What gets messy is when you have to call in the wrecker because you have cars on their sides.

Why $6200.00? I am guessing that is the cost to re-rail.

The Railroads have a lot of money to burn....Let them burn it on derailments.

railroads dont have they amount of money you think they have.... and evey derailment cuts into the amount of money that the railroad can use for inprovments..buying new equpment..and paying big bonuses to the upper managment.... since we are self insured thier is no insurance that picks up the bill... and derailments happen eveyday on evey system in the world.... it is part of the job.... equipment fails..and cars go on the ground.... fact of railroading... and the dollor amount is what the FRA set up for some kind of reporting perpouse.....a minor derailment can be fixed in a matter of mins with some blocks of wood that cost next to nothing... and dont have to be reported to the FRA....
