Some of the areas that I go that other people go are as the following. West Chicago Illinois. The rr junction their is with the Union Pacific and Elgin Joliet & Eastern. To get their take rt.38 to rt.59. follow the tracks to the station and at the second stoplight, make a left and find an area to prak. Good luck parking.[;)]

Another one is Griffith Indiana. The railroads that go through their are the Elgin Joliet & Eastern and the Canadian National/Grand Trunk. Directions, take 94 out east until Cline. Get off their, and continue down that road until it ends. When it ends, make a left, and keep looking right until the first gradecrossing. Parking is legal on the street and in the small measuem lot. That is what I do anyway.

Feel free to add yours. Just make it atleast as far west as Rochelle and as far east of Hammond please. Thank you![:)]

Dont forget Porter/Chesterton, IN. Just dont venture onto railroad property and you wont have a problem. Lots of trains!

Harvey is nice and Homewood...one of the same. Stay at the Homewood Metra depot and watch trains from the CN yard swtiching, arriving, and departing as well as plenty of Metra Electric trains. I have even seen two NS trains go through there so there is some variety with speed!

Ever go over to Wellsboro, In? The GTW crosses the B&O Chicago line. Pretty busy these days.

If you have any interests in towers, go to East Chicago...two are still there - Calumet tower - crossing of the IHB, CSX, and EJE. About a mile south is Grassilli, which is just a bunch of industrial tracks branching off of the IHB.

I have been to East Chicago, and it is pretty cool. But I haven's been to that place in Indiana. Starting from Chicago, can you give me directions please.

Directions to Wellsboro from Chicago:

Take 80 or 94 west to US 421 exit (Michigan City). South to Westville and a mile south US 6 heads east. Take it a few miles (probably 7 or so) to Union Mills/Wellsboro road. UM/Wellsboro is 1/2 mile south of 6. Lots of good photo ops in a small town. The junction is east of the main road. Cross the CSX and turn left and go to the junction...cant miss it.

Good train viewing in Memphis from the general area of the Channel 3 facility off Riverfront Drive -- I won't go into how to get to the immediately-adjacent area, which has a bit better viewing, from 'local streets' except that it's fairly straightforward from Crump Blvd (which is what the "I-55" bridge turns into if you don't turn south)

This has all the traffic going across the Mississippi, including what turns south on BNSF (within a few blocks) and on the CNIC line near the river (which also sees the Amtrak trains). There can be some problems with foliage during the summer. The ROW is fenced off in this area, and I have not encountered problems with railroad security -- BUT be aware that it is active and vigilant -- DON'T go on railroad property without permission. (Don't know the procedure for getting permits in this area.)

One word, Galesburg. Its at the center of SEVEN BNSF mainlines and a huge yard with a bridge that crosses it right next to the engine shop. And if that gets boring then go dive anout 5 minutes east or west and youll find fast main line action. Long live The Rock....

Galesburg is hard to beat, except it is all one carrier. I had a hard time counting seven mainlines, but if you consider the yard to be a hub, you could come up with seven spokes, actually eight with the line to Peoria.

That little town west of Galesburg, Cameron is interesting also.
