Don't forget that as a result of trackage rights granted to the D&H at the time of the formation of ConRail, CP has trackage rights into Bethlehem, PA and the independent LV Rail Management (Philadelphia, Bethlehem & New England, the ex-Bethlehem Steel switching line) intermodal and transload terminal there, as well as the Scranton, PA area, Harrisburg, and apparently to northern New Jersey - see the map at: http://www.cpr.ca/en/choose-rail/network-and-facilities (apparently the similar rights to Washington, D.C. have been abandoned).

carnej1 Would CP retain any trackage rights in this deal?
Would CP retain any trackage rights in this deal?
IMO, probably no need to once CP abandoned Philly.
BTW, thought that NS might go after the north end, too, to compete with CSX for Montreal traffic, but I understand that CP may be planning to haul Alberta oil to the Albany terminal. NS could still work a trackage agreement on the north end, I guess, if warranted.

A split of D&H in this fashion is similar in concept to the division of C&EI by MP and L&N many years ago. The Delaware & Hudson could reasonably be viewed as two separate operations that share an endpoint (Albany).
