Peter Actually, I think the reason they look like KCS/TFM units is because they are gray. I would disagree with your statement that "relatively few" Dash 8s were built with standard cabs, by my rough estimate I'd say it's more like half... or more than half! SP, UP, Santa Fe, C&NW, Conrail, NS, and CSX (and the aforementioned LMX) all bought standard cab Dash 8s. UP, Santa Fe, Conrail (and also LMS), CSX, and Amtrak bought the widecabs. Of course the Canadians just HAD to be different, BCOL and CN bought widebody Dash 8-40CMs. Now the Dash 9s, on the other hand, only had NS as "spartan cab" customers, all the rest were widecab. -Mark http://www.geocities.com/fuzzybroken

No, actually they're more like ex-BN, but not really. The LMX units were leased to the BN on a "power by the hour" basis, just like the Oakway/EMD SD60s that I think the BNSF still uses. (Anybody know for sure?) And just like the Oakways were painted in EMD demo colors, the LMXs were painted in GE demo colors. -Mark http://www.geocities.com/fuzzybroken
