I'm a bit on the biased side, but "America's Resourceful Railroad" is always a good one in my mind.

The one that I know of that really ISNT a good one right now is Union Pacific's " We Can Handle It " if they are...then where is the proof of it. With all of their problems, and licensing tiffs they are having,i'm surprised that they still have customers. I had ordered alot of videos through Pentrex, and never got them when I should have,as some dufuss dumkuff at UPS sent them to Utah on the UP. What in san juan is the package doing in Utah instead of here in Wisconsin? Called the UPS and UP and asked them both how do they keep customers when they pull this kind of stupidity? Neither had a reply.

I don't know if this is what you mean by favorite RR quotes, and I don't mean to be a "sycophant." But, it is Mark's statement referring the the Rock Island:

I don't have time to get the exact quote, but it is something to the effect of "they were charging rates that lost them 500 per carload and trying to make up the difference in volume."

In combination with reading some of the books that have been suggested on this forum, this quote allowed me to reach at least a junior-level "I get it" in terms of rail opperations and why some roads failed.

I think it is a great quote.

Being a bit of a fan of the old New York Central, Vanderbilt's "the public be damned..." does tend to stick in the mind!

"The passenger train is like the male teat, neither useful nor ornamental." - Jim Hill

"You couldn't make money then, you can't make money now, and you won't ever be able to make money with intercity passenger trains." - Lou Menk

"By many measures, the U.S. freight rail system is the safest, most efficient and cost effective in the world." - Federal Railroad Administration, October, 2009. I'm just your average, everyday, uncivilized howling "anti-government" critic of mass government expenditures for "High Speed Rail" in the US. And I'm gosh darn proud of that.

How's about CRI&P - Come Right In & P**s
The Southern Serves the South - like a bull serves a cow
SCL - Still Coast Line, S**t Comes Later
NY State Interurban Line Jamestown, Winslow and North Western - Jesus Wept, and No Wonder
Ohio Narrow Gauge Bellaire, Zanesville and Coshocton (?) - Bent, Zigzag and Crooked
GM&O - Good Money and Overtime, Goats Milk and Onions
L&N - Long and Nasty
N&W - Nothing Works (by a Wabash Passenger conductor bring a totally frozen Blue Bird into Decatur, as though the Wabash never had one freeze up)

And these are just the ones on the tip of my tongue . . .

A certain railroad man had been criticized for writing lengthy reports about derailments and then responded after the next one with,

"Off again, on again, gone again, Finnegan."
