We're going to the Dakota Bowl tonight.  Our O'Gorman High school plays one of the cross town rivals, Linclon High School.   Our youngest son is in the marching band that plays at half time.  Middle son was in the choir that sang the National Anthem last year, while little brother did the marching band thing then too.

This is a 40 year old tradition, where the goings-on and tailgating started at 10:00 a.m. this morning.  Tonight, skydivers, fireworks, parade,etc.....and some football.  The way folks carriy on, you'd thing we were in Lincoln Nebraska.  I guess they've got a football team down there that has a few fans as well.  We'll be dressed in blue- about 8,000 of us.  Lincoln's side will be dressed in red-about 800 of them.  Good times!

Our team lost by a touchdown- the one the other team made in the first 15 seconds of the game!Sad

Murray - I am laughing so hard about another "thread" and I don't want to get reported, so I will just say that we had enough green all over our end of the state we looked like limeade - got nothing out of it.  It managed to completely miss us several times.  So good luck!  But the cooler weather was nice - and very cool!

My goodness Mookie..  it was hilarious. Laugh

Murphy - Lincoln High School - in NE - is my alma mater.  Course they only had about 3 choices back then, too.  And our colors were red and black.  Your boys are lucky - they didn't need a piano in our band.

And to see the 3rd largest city in NE on game day (the stadium) is pretty awesome.  Year after year and win, lose or draw, they just don't give up.

Cooled off nicely here - still shirtsleeve weather (although some folks were showing up at the train show with coats buttoned up).

Day two of the train show tomorrow.  Hopefully they'll have a decent crowd again.

Tree - that is a cool idea.  I would stop for that one.  Dad's philosophy was always you get to the parents thru the kids.  Actually - he just really liked to visit with the kids, but it kept my mother happy.

Do you put out a dish of inexpensive candy?  When we did antique shows years ago, Dad used to put out a bowl of candy and people would always stop a minute to get one.  Then while they were distracted, they would look around the booth.  And the kids always loved to stop by.

Even better - I made a plush "EOT."

We call it "FRED," since kids probably can relate to "Fred" better than "EOT."  FRED looks much like the markers we use on the railroad - just a yellow box with a red flashing light on top.

The door where the recharging cord is stored on the real device just has a small compartment behind it.

When kids come by the booth, FRED makes an appearance.  "Have you met FRED?  FRED gets to ride on all of my trains!"  Maybe add something about "in all sorts of weather."  "The real FRED is hard - steel and hard plastic."  (Let kid feel how soft this one is.)  "And the real one flashes - that would keep you awake at night.  This one just smiles." (The "bulb is sequined material with eyes and a smile glued on.)

"But the real FREDs don't have something this one does" (sometimes with a warning not to try this with a real EOT) - "open the door."  And there are several pieces of candy behind the door.  If there are several kids in the family, they are admonished to share...

Of course, while the kids are listening to the spiel (and getting some coloring sheets, which conveniently have our website and phone number on them), mom and dad are, indeed, looking around the booth.

Works pretty good.  Sometimes we have to convince the kids that the can actually have the candy...  And we'll usually glance at mom or dad to make sure they're good with it (some might not be).

I put my restocking supply in a basket this time, so I'm sure folks will be helping themselves as well.

Preheat oven to 350, bake Randy on center rack.

We're hot and muggy today, with rain forecast tonight and tomorrow, brought along by cooler temperatures.  Maybe the rain will give people a reason to come to the train show!
