Thank you Ira,

I'm sorry for not responding to your post sooner.
I now have a color photo. of the actual/prototype/real car and it is colored and marked exactly as the two different scale models, that we have and for the most part is basically the same type of car.

Unfortunately, I am restricted from saying how I obtained the photo. and I am, also, restricted from posting the photo., which is just like trying to find out info. on the actual 'Dry Ice' insulated box car and trying to get a photo. of same, everything is 'Secret Service' style, because, for some, only GOD knows reason, this car, info. and photo. is never mind 'Top Secret,' but is 'Krypto Top Secret!!!!!!!'
I know, 'Copyright' infringement, but I bet there is some info. and photos. out there!!!!!!!

Take Care,
Ralph

I have an Atlas/Austria N scale Thermice plug door LRC box car road number TICX 8903 in the correct paint scheme and lettering, exactly as Atlas did it in O scale..   I can post a picture if someone is interested.

I received a color photo. of an actual/prototypical/'Real-Deal' 'Therm Ice' insulated box car. which exactly the same as Atlas 'O's' 1:48 Scale size version and with the same road #TICX 8907, color scheme and markings.
Atlas 'O' Trainman got it right, Item #2002305 3-rail and 2002355 2-rail.

The actual and scale model cars have, on the sides, 'AX 6 55' and 'BLT AX 2-50.'

Unfortunately, I am restricted from stating who sent it to me and I am also restricted from posting the photo.
Sorry,

Ralph

Yes Carl, you are correct.

I did try using the I.R.M. of 'TICX' and 'LRC,' but without any success.

I'll just have to try again and if I do find a photo., I'll post it.

One of the Atlas 1:48 scale models has a road of 'Therm Ice,' 'TICX 8907,' 'LRC' and 'AX 6 55' to the left of the plug door and to the right of the door  'DRY ICE,'  'CUSHION UNDERFRAME' and 'BLT AX 2-50.'

Ralph, you should be looking for TICX on the LRC cars.  The only ones I'm aware of would have been those built in 1961 (series TICX 8900-8920) or a little after that (TICX 8921-8941).  I haven't seen a prototype picture of the cars that I'm aware of, but those are the numbers to be looking for.

Sam,
Thank you for your E.-Mail to me.

I had transmission reply trouble, to you, so that is why I am answering your E.-Mail here.

I like to have a prototype photo. of  the real car, to go along with my scale model car.

I have asked a model train forum, but to no avail and that is why I am asking for a prototype photo. on this forum, as it's participants deal and had dealt, with real trains, in real life.

Take care,
Respectfully,
Ralph

Thank you, BaltACD,

For the color prototypical photo. of the Publicker tank car.

It seems, as if, there are no photos. of the Publicker Industries 'Therm Ice,' 'Dry Ice,' insulated box cars.

I like to have a prototypical. photo. of the car's scale model, that I own and I try getting info from the scale model manufacturer, but it seems they don't want to give out any info., probably due to competitive reasons?

Publicker tank car from 2010, appears that ownership of the car has moved on from Publicker...Note that the trucks appear to be plain bearing trucks modified to roller bearings.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!

Sam and Carl,

Thank you both for your kind and helpful information.

I too, have only found a prototype photo. of a Publicker Ind. 'TANK' car.

Now, thanks to both of you, I will use the 'Initial Reporting Marks' letters 'PUBX,' for my proto. photo. quest.

My files on Publicker Industries (PUBX) reflect only the tank cars I've seen.  I had not seen any LRC box cars from that company.

I suspect that the cars you are looking for are in the TICX 8900 series.  They were built for the National Car Company, and possibly relettered from NX reposting marks.  If I have records of these cars (again, I would have had to have seen them), they haven't been put into the computer yet.  Reporting marks TICX disappeared in about 1975; I suspect that they were among the last LRC cars to disappear.  Those cars disappeared with the advent of the transportation of liquefied carbon dioxide in tank cars.

I hope this is helpful to you.

Train-O

Thank you for your professional courtesy.

I am endeavoring to obtain either a color, or a B&W photo. of "Subject" box car.

Ralph

Ralph:

Permit me to make a couple of observations:

First:  We have a Poster  here who is a former, now retired railroader (Carl S.. better know here as CSHaveRR) Carl has quite a library and knowledge of this subject of Rail Cars.

( it might be helpful to have identified the Corporate Identifier Code-UMLR# for Publicker Ind)  Carl has quite a knowledge of Rail Cars.   I think it is PUBX (?)   All I was able to find was information on an apparent, large fleet of Tank Cars under that Code.

Second:   I think I recall from many years back that at one point I owned an "Athern" (?) manufactured Box Car that carried the Logo of " Therm- Ice"  . As I recall it had a lithographed cardboard sides and ends, in silver, was p[ossibly circa early 1950's, or late 1940's (?)

Also, I was curious about the Publicker Corp, and why it was mostly listed as a distiller of various brands of whiskey.

Here is a link to the fascinating tale of how a company went from salvaging alcohoil from old whiskey barrels to being a distiller of Industrial Alcohol, and a large line of consumable drinking whiskeys from The State of Pennsylvania, to ties to the same industry in Kentucky; eventually to its demise(?)

Linked @ http://www.ellenjaye.com/pub_publicker.htm

Maybe this will lead you to find photos of some of those elusive "Therm- Ice" Box Cars...   I was an interesting search, and opened up some history, that many might not be aware of... Also, apparently Publicker Corp is still in Business(?) Offices listed in West Greenwich, Ct...

Thanks, Ralph, for some interesting research on a Saturday !Bow
