Hoping to get some time for train watching in the Elgin, IL, area as well as along the Metra Milwaukee West line into Chicago later this summer. I spent a good amount of time in Elgin back in the 70s and rode the trains into Chicago then.
What are some good, legal places to see train action in Elgin?
Back then I hiked along the CNW tracks out to the place where the Milwaukee line passes it on a bridge west of Elgin. Is there a way to get to that bridge without trespassing these days?
I know Metra's schedule during the day. What does freight on the former CNW and Milwaukee lines look like now?
As for the Metra line Elgin- Chicago, where are some good photo locations?
