Though I liked the green M-K-T paint scheme with the yellow stripes and lettering, one thing that interests me about the Katy is how closer to the end, they would buy just about any ol' hunk-o-junk locomotive from another railroad, slap some paint/primer over the old markings, add MKT and a road number, and send 'er out on the road. Of course, not all were true "junk", as some of these same engines still run for successive owners, but it sure added a splash of color to the roster!
Another thing I liked was the Baldwin AS-16s that Katy rebuilt with an EMD engine and long hood, and better yet, when Katy was through with 'em, they found a willing buyer in Chicago & North Western!!! Cheap midwestern railroads...

The MKT line from St Charles, MO. to Clinton, MO. is now a trail. The only tunnel on the line is still there at Rochport, MO. just off Interstate 70. Pentrex also has a MKT tape, covers most of Kansas and Texas, not Missouri.

What are you looking for? There is some freeway-median running of a former MKT line in Tulsa, OK, but when I was there (1990) it was definitely a low-speed line. It was UP by then but the mailbox at the local yard still said 'MKT'.
