Chris, I delayed responding due to some more pressing activities away from the forum, but without a doubt I was really pleased with the set.

That being said, I am going to reveal the nice "easter egg" in this post to those interest enough to find it, which is to click any of the images, which will put you into Chris' Flikr slide show.  It's not all trains stuff (though there's lots) but it's definitely a visual treat.

There!  Cat's out of the bag.

As the downtown anchor to the new airport transit line, perhaps the redesigned platform area was meant to be a transition from the modern to the old station house.  Nevertheless, with diesels and the occasional visits of steam engines, I wonder how long the canopy will stay white.

Don't like it.  It looks like the bowels of the starship "Enterprise".

A train station should look like a train station, dad-gummit!

OK, I'm a dinosaur.  Find me a tar pit and i'll go quietly.

Thanks, Denver. That is striking design, indeed.

blue streak - #3 there past the 60% mark like a month or two ago, most of the rail and bridges are done north of I-70 towards the airport the rest is hit or miss there are still redoing intersections first then will start the track work plus there are still working with UP on there second main line in certain sections that parallel the east rail line. that's what I have seen so far. #5 http://www.rtd-fastracks.com/ec_1

MidlandMike

Was the canopy designed by the sample people who designed Denver's new airport?

Question: Is the "canopy" a painting or the real sky?

That first photo can cause sensory overload!

And I really like the one of Victor, guessing he is a cook, but imagine in 30 or 40 years looking back at the photo and saying ”so that’s how people dressed way back then!”…plus it adds a real human touch to the whole thing.

Copcarss:   Pictures great and remind one of how new European terminals look,  Several questions.

1.  Any idea of what the vertical clearances are including new commuter rail ?

2.  Were CAT supports for the airport line provided in the rebuilding ?

3.  What progress on the line to the airport ?

4.  Any pictures and observations of the airport station ?

5.  Also any intermediate stations ?

Hey gang,

While I've been fairly active photographically lately, I haven't been shooting railroads too much. One of the railroad subjects that I have been trying to document, though, is the remodeled Denver Union Station. Bit by bit, the station is re-opening and Amtrak is once again home where it belongs. I believe the official grand re-opening is this weekend. After that, I hope to have a little better access around the station and can shoot from a few more locations that are still within the construction zone at this time.

For the time being, though, here are some images of what the new digs look like:
