Not only is Ed the photo of the day today, Friday, on the Trains.com home page (with an unpatched, unwashed, SP speed-lettering SD45), he's also going to be the photo of the day on Saturday and Sunday. Yes, don't faint, three days in a row with new photos, and they're all Eds.

Be sure to check in on Sunday for what I think is the coolest shot I've ever used for the photo of the day. A little hint: it gives a whole new meaning to the phrase “as agile as a cat.”

And, of course, a question to go with the picture! BNSF has left some old Sante Fe's in their colors, but painted the BNSF logo on them. Why didn't UP do that to this one?

The SD45 was just too neat to pass up, just about all the SP power down here has the patch paint job and the UP shield decal on the nose.

For those wondering where the crew went, they just walked across the street, to buy hambugers for lunch!

Go to the top of the page, where it gives the list of magazines.
Click Trains. You'll get another page.
In the far left column, scroll down to Resources.
You will find Photos, audio, video. Click on.
You will get (approx. center of screen), there is a search section.
Click on, and will give you several choices, among them Photo
of the Day.

Hope I have helped you, not confused you. I had a lot of trouble
finding it myself originally.[:)]

Actually, since it's the photo of the day, it should be updated every day. Unfortunately, when push comes to shove (like when I have a bunch of our e-mail newsletters to do), the Photo of the Day gets put off.

If you have to leave a photo of the day up for longer than a day, this is a good one to do that with. The only way to improve on this photo would be if the subject is a SD40T-2.

An interesting side note is that SP 8586 has been working the haulers out of Roseville lately. Appearently the battery box doors got swapped with another SP locomotive, so now it says "El Paso" below the cab on the left side. That is the only Speed Lettering locomotive that I have seen that had the name of one of the large shops on it.

For those of you who do not know, Southern Pacific in the 1980s (I don't know exactly when they started, but judging from pictures it appears to be in the eighties) put the name of the locomotives home shop below the cab.

I see a pair of SD45T-2 almost everyday here in central Illinois on the TP&W. Still in SP lettering and all. The only thing is it they have CEFX letters under the road number. If someone wants to see there I have pics and ill try to post them.Long live the rock.

Judging by the headlight placement and the numberboards, I'm guessing the MP15 is former SP.

As are the tracks and the subdivision...its on the old Hearn sub.
As Modelcar pointed out in a email to me, look at the stub track on the left, its buried in the ground deep enough that they mow it with weed wackers!
First chance I get, I am going to get a photo of the lead down into this place, you would never believe you could get a train down there.
All the horror stories about how bad SP let some trackage get....are true.

Minolta Dimage Hi7...great digital camera, SLR with a nice zoom, along with a digital zoom to boot, and does video too...

Ed, just saw todays photo of the day, and man is it fabulous! Can you give more details about where it was taken ect. Boy I wouldn't want to be that operator in that excavator!

Taken about a mile north of the I 10 interchange and the 290/loop 610 project.
Its on the Lufkin sub of the old SP....the reason for it is simple, there is a mobile cement plant just to the right...it follows the I 10 expansion project...what they are unloading is being trucked to the site, about a mile or two away.
Once the distance becomes to great, the plant will move to a new location, closer to the work...

(Actually, I'm jealous. You get to play in the Houston sandbox and the track through my town is EMPTY 23 hours 56 1/2 minuites a day, including all daylight hours.)
