Does anyone know if the coaling tower at Dekalb, IL is still there?

You had better get your pictures now because the UP will be tearing it down someday for a Third main track here in the near future.

I make it a yearly thing when I head to Rochelle to check out the coaling tower. Every year I also try to get a decent photo of a train going through it but strike out. The only shot of a train I have going through it, was a light engine move heading west but the sun was on the wrong side. It can make for some interesting photos though.

I would hate to see it go. The UP already took out the one in Council Bluffs,Iowa.

It is still there and the double track main runs right under it. It seems to be on a slight curve and that makes for an interesting sight when you are just west of the tower in town and are watching the trains coming west on the main.

Its still there but the UP is talking about extending the triple track out past Dekalb sooner or later so get youre photos now.
