AMTRAK "Missouri River Runner" Hits Semi-Truck in Kirkwood, Mo.
Posted by samfp1943 on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 12:27 PM

The News this morning carried a story of an AMTRAK train From St. Louis to Kansas City struck a Tractor-Trailer stuck at a crossing in Kirkwood Mo. on the night of 7 January 2014.

Apparently, was a low speed collision for the Wesbound train with some 59 passengers, two passengers were reported injured but not seriously. .  The photos this morning showed a trailer that was impacted by the front of the locomotive. and damage seemed comparatively mild by the usual standards we usually see. Impact was at approx 15 mph.

Kirkwood is the first stop out of St. Louis for the train. Which is why the speed was not higher.  The Truck had apparently become stuck on the crossing due to accumulated ice and snow.
