"The Railrodder" was a short and one of Keaton's last films (1965).

And don't forget the Buster Keaton classic of about the same era called "The Railroader".  A hapless Buster swims ashore presumably shipwrecked and presumably on the Atlantic Coast.  In need of transportation from nowhere he spies a hand car and takes off on his journey to the Pacific Ocean.  All thanks to Canadian railroads!

RIDEWITHMEHENRY is the name for our almost monthly day of riding trains and transit in either the NYCity or Philadelphia areas including all commuter lines, Amtrak, subways, light rail and trolleys, bus and ferries when warranted. No fees, just let us know you want to join the ride and pay your fares. Ask to be on our email list or find us on FB as RIDEWITHMEHENRY (all caps) to get descriptions of each outing.

The film was made in 1958.  Riding those open speeders in the Canadian winder looked cold.  I saw they would climb telegraph poles with boot spikes and no belt, and would add acid (sulfuric?) to signal batteries and hand them down to a guy in an underground vault.  Hopefully things were safer than they looked.  Great pictures of railroading in the Canadian Rockies.

I got a pair of Lionel CP passenger cars for Xmas about the year this film was made.  I fulfilled a longtime wish when I rode the Canadian 30 years later.  Thanks for letting us know of this film.
