CSX AC6000's rerated to 6000 HP?

I heard that CSX was rerating their large AC6000 fleet back to 6000 HP. Is that true? What changes did they make to the locomotives to allow this to happen. Does this mean that they will be ordering more 6000 hp units in the future?

I have not heard anything about that. What is your source of information on this?
As for the future, I don't think CSX will buying any 6,000 HP units. GE's GEVO series is only 4,000 and 4,400 HP and EMD's SD70ACe and SD70M-2 are 4,300 HP. I have not of any plans from either manufacturer for a future 6,000 HP locomotive.

I saw it on another railroad forum. Does anybody who works for CSX know it is true? The GEVO is 4400 hp from only 12 cylinders, so 16 would get you 6000 hp. I have heard that both CSX and UP have not given up on 6000 hp locomotives. CSX Engineer, do you know anything about this?

The BHP Billiton AC 6000s, which work as hard as any locomotives in the world, were never derated and keep working at 6000HP.
I assume the GEVO engines share many components with the HDL, so some improved components might be being applied during engine maintenance.
It would be easier to say if we knew why they were derated in the first place. The BHP Billiton locomotives have (even) bigger radiators, for example.

IIRC CW44-6's are the derated AC6000's.

I'm farely sure they will never go back to 6000HP, I think there are a couple AC6600's that haven't been dropped to 4400HP but they should be rerated to 4400HP soon.

Check this out: http://www.bullsheet.com/RosterMenu.html Go to the CW44-6 link and CW60AC link. Only one CW44-6 now... guess they are re-rating them back to 6,000 HP. Just a few months ago the CW44-6 list was populated with locomotives, now only one remains. What's the deal? First they de-rate them to 4,400 HP and now re-rate them back up to 6,000.

Ya know I don't understand wuts goining on either, their's been a lot of fishey things going on here w/ CSX. Ok . . .CSX just needed to keep the CW44-6 at 6,000hp. . there problem solved. Then their wouldn't be all this confusion w/ their locomotive roster. LOL

i dont know all the nuts and bolts about why they did it..but the short story is due to some kind of software problem ..they where not running proper as 6k locomotives...so they where derated do 44... now they are bringing them back up to 6k.... i dont get to play with super power that offten....so it donts realy affect me...although not to long ago..i did get to play with a brand new SD70mac... only been in service a few weeks....still had new cab smell when you opend the door..and very little road dirt on it at all....not a bad ride.. for a EMD

So it is true they are going back to 6000 hp. I'll bet a 6000 hp GE Evolution Model is in the works (ES60?). And you guys thought I was nuts!

I'm not sure about going back to 6000 but I am sure that no ES60AC will be coming out any time soon, GE and EMD have had troubles with anything over 5000HP.
