Jason, You would see more action on the NS Columbus line north of Portsmouth. I like to go to Vances, a passing and exchange yard east(south by train radio jargon) of Chillicothe. There on afternoons you can catch the shortline Great Miami and Scioto interchanging cars with CSX. My friend and I hiked two miles to find the tunnels on GM&S near Byer in Jackson Co.We also found the notorious Moonville Tunnel on the old B&O grade near Zaleski-but not the ghost.Good hunting Jon

CSX and NS watchin in OH & KY

I am lucky enough to live within 30 min of the CSX's former C&O manline that runs along the Ohio river from Ashland KY to Cincinnati OH and the NS's former N&W line that runs from Portsmouth Ohio to Cincinnati and on the weekends I like to go train watchn, but I thought that this would be easier if had some scheduled for those lines. I usually watch trains in Maysvlle KY or Mt. Orab OH. so if anyone knows where i can find out the best times to go railfaning n thoser places 'd really appreciate it. Also Ashland KY is a great place to go if you're a CSX fan. There's a huge yard in nearby Russel KY and you see alot of action around the AK steel mill.
Happy rails to you,
Jason
