How many Star Trek fans are on this Forum...
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, October 1, 2004 10:46 AM
There may be a direct correlation between the same types of obessive behavior between railfans and Science fiction fans. Every year somewhere on Amtrak without fail I run into a group of klingons coming from a Trekie convention on Amtrak. I suppose if the Enterprise were a train ,Kirk would be the conducter,Spock the fireman,Mcoy the bartender in the clubcar,Nurse Chaple would tuck you in inthe sleeper cars,Checkov would be the engineer,Scottie would be in charge of Locomotive maintance and shops and Uhura would be the Dispacther. Norfolk Southern would be played by the Klingons and the Romulains would be played by Union Pacfic...

Yes, I like Star Trek and watch the TV shows and movies. No, I do not speak any launguage, or dress up, or ....... so I would disagree with your point.

Also I think Sulu would be the fireman, not Spock.

Trainfinder22,

I just want to thank you.

This forum makes me lose a lot of sleep because I probably spend a little too much time on it while at work, so I have to work at night to make up for what work I have missed. If it wasn't for you I would lose a lot more sleep.

This website is nearly perfect. There are a lot of knowledgeable people who know a lot more about trains than I do and are kind enough to share their knowledge with me. Although a lot of people disagree with one another, most everyone on here is polite and respectful to one another and the forum as a whole. Heck, even though Junctionfan can say some crazy things now and then, I still get the feeling he tries to be friendly and respectful.

And then there is you. You get booted from the forum for using language disrespectful to the forum. Instead of coming back to the forum in a respectful manner, you flaunt the fact that you were booted by chosing a name that is disrespectful to the forum. Then you say stuff like you just did--which the forum has made clear that they don't want to hear.

Needing attention is one thing, but you are just a jerk. If you were just incompetent, it wouldn't really bother me, but you need to get your attention to compensate for your childhood inadequacies by disrespecting people.

So thank you in helping make this forum a little less enjoyable so that I can sleep and get more work done.

Gabe

P.S. If you ever wonder why you don't have any friends, the answer is: because sometimes life really is fair.

I was going to say something along the same lines,
but now, all I have to do is go clean up the mess I just made...

there's more than you think.

BTW, Sulu would be the fireman, spock would be a Locomotive designer (startrek was in the arly infancy of Space travel, so that corrolates to early steam where Locomotives changed constantly based on a designers whim).

More like:

Kirk: Conductor
Scotty: Engineer
Sulo: fireman
Spock: RPO Security
Uhura: Waitress
McCoy: Baretender
Checkov: 1st brakeman
Nurse Chapel: 2nd brakeman

I'd have to say I'm a way bigger Star Wars fan than Star Trek. In sheer dollars, I think my Star Wars collection is bigger than my trains and second only to my video and computer games.

But I am watching The Next Generation right now and Deep Space Nine is one of my favorite shows. And Union Pacific is clearly the Borg.

First off I'll take this question seriously .

I like Star Trek and have watched most of the more recent series, ( Example: Given a choice between Trek or Dawson's Creek....Well thats and easy one.) I used to consider myself an Fan, but then I moved to Pasadena and each year I got to see some of the nutcases that show up to convention.

We get the big west coast Trek convention here in Pasadena each year and Ohhh boy do we get some interesting scenes... Fully costumed fans roaming the streets of Pasadena, beat-up 82 Toyota Tercels with "My Other Car is the Starship Enterprise" bumper stickers. I went to a convention only once, I lasted 15 minutes before I was walking BRISKLY (IOW running) to the exit. WOW I understand the concept of Nerd!!!! I dont really need a 5'x5' oil painting of Patrick Stewert for my living room.

I saw the documentary "Trekkies" and it really captures the Trek fan in all their Glory and Horror. If your a closet Trekkie and fence sitting about whether to to come out of that closet, rent this movie. If at the end you say, "Gee, Thats cool, I like that" then step proudly out of that closet , but if you say, "Holy Crap, their NUTS!" like me, then let sleeping Klingon's lay, and find another hobby, like model RRing! At least the Rivet Counters dont walk around in steel mesh with a jello mold on thier foreheads.

My favorite convention moment was seeing a group of 6 fully costumed Klingon warriors standing on the street corner. They were waiting for the BUS!, I guess their transporter wasn't on-line...Not one of them had a car, probably sold it to pay for the costume.[:p]

   Have fun with your trains

Junctionfan, do you KNOW E. Hunter Harrison?

He's entitled to a bit more consideration than being condemned out-of-hand to some of these characters, whether or not you agree with his management philosophy.

Not personally but from the stories and reputation that is widely known, I would say it is a fair assessment.

Would you rather I compared him to someone else?

I'm not a Star Trek fan myself, but there is a connection that Star Trek has to trains. Or more specifically, model trains. The design for the circle/triangle logos on the Star Trek uniforms come from the knobs of a Lionel SW transformer. The creator of Star Trek liked Lionel trains and got the idea to use the design from the transformer as the logo. True story.

I was a fan of the first Star Trek series.I've never been able to really get into the newer stuff . My policy is: If it doesn't have Captain Kirk, it aint Star Trek.

Antonio,

If I am reading someithing into your post that is imprecise, I appologize, but you know that Kissmycabose7, is trainfinder 22 right? Who by the way is not a girl, right? Hense the reason I thought the comment was rude and offensive--to the female members of the forum.

If I misconstrued your references to strong women, I appologize.

The nic "Kissmycaboose" is itself offensive to the forum.

He is simply thumbing his nose or as the case maybe "something" else at the forum members.
