Unusual sight

A week ago Sunday (shows you how often I'm on here!) that's Sept. 19/04, at about 4 p.m. on CN's double track main (Quebec-Windsor corridor) at Johnstown ON, I saw two CN Dash 9's back to back running alone at about 70mph, the second one looking brand new, and both with full headlights on. It was followed by a low flying, grey helicopter withch I couldn't see any markins on. Can any one explain this?
