Sunday's
LA Times
(9-26-04) Business Section had a column about the surge in intermodal traffic in recent years. Most of the column discusses traffic patterns already discussed elsewhere.
The article mentions that long-haul truckers spend weeks away from home but did not discuss the quality of work/life for rail workers.
The article ends with the comment that 80,000 new employees will be hired in the next five years, to replace retirees. Per the AAR the jobs pay $60,000-$80,000 with excellent benefits. (Is it really that good?)
