Most appropriate wheels for steam era are ribbed back. I assume you are talking metal wheel sets.
Check www.reboxx.com for right size, they have excellent fitting wheels.
As for couplers, any of the Kadee #5 or clones will do (Accurail, McHenry, etc.)

Finding the right wheel sets to work with Bachman fright cars. Also whats the best coupler to use. I want to run the in a 50's setting behind Steamers.
