November Trains and Kathi Kube.
Posted by jeaton on Tuesday, September 21, 2004 10:57 AM
My November Trains appeared just 15 minutes ago in my mail box. When did they start to print the magazine in Delavan??

Congrats to Kathi-Promotion to Manager Editor. That is just third on the list on the Mast Head.

Gotta go. 98 pages of hard copy to get through.

Hey, Jay,

Thanks for the congrats. I'm pretty excited — and suddenly really busy.

As for why this issue seems to be arriving earlier, I couldn't tell you. We didn't do anything unusual on our end, but here it is. Go figure.

(But Wisconsinites certainly do rock in this home-grown girl's book!)

...If I received my November issue now that would be about 12 days early...and of course I do not have it yet and don't expect it just yet.
But congrats to Kathi for the advancement. Good to have people in her position that we know are becoming big rail fans.

Kathi - let me add my congratulations!

Remember, the Managing Editor is in charge of Managing the Editor, so a Louisville Slugger under the desk might come in handy.

Still working on my issue (Slow reader!) Excellent column by Mark H. I highly recommend it for reading. He quotes fellow forum member *** Lewis.

Kathi-

My condolences regarding your promotion. With it will likely come more headaches, more stress, more frustration, more hours. In addition, you will also likely be put in a higher tax bracket, resulting in your paying more taxes. Sigh.

Seriously, congrats!

Hey, I don't have mine yet!

And the Official Trains website is still showing the October cover. Is somebody putting out a bootleg edition?

Congratulations, Ms. Kube! If they ever let you out of the office, come see the trains in Chicagoland!

If the Editor is as hardheaded as some of the folks I work with, a Louisville Slugger may not be sufficient. A good stout hickory pick handle (aka Texas Toothpick or Pickrick Drumstick) should do the trick.

Funny you should mention Chicago. Multiple TRAINS staffers are descending on the Windy City next week for the Railway Supply Institute trade show (which explains the foreign equipment in Metra's yards this week). It should be seriously cool.

As for the Web site, the incredible Ms. Angela plans to update that tomorrow. She's taking on additional responsibilities with her promotion, too, and updating the current issue info is one of them. Typically, this gets updated before subscribers get their copies, but this one somehow made its way through the USPS ultra-quick. Go figure.

(And thanks for all the congrats. I'll keep the Louisville Slugger in mind, but I'm not too worried with the candidates we've seen.)

Take care!

Actually, Noah, I and those who already have their issues had earlier gone to some higher up in the USPS to plead our case. I can't confirm this (a little hearing problem), but I might have heard things like, "Would a bribe help?", or, "You can remove the plain brown wrapper and look at that other magazine that comes here.", (SPECIAL NOTE: I know for sure that that didn't come from Noah). "Why don't you speed them up and ship by train?".

Well, something worked for us. Hang in there.

Congratulations Kathi. We are looking forward to your great work.

My copy did not arrive yet, although I have not gone home to check todays mail. I do not hold out much hope. Afterall it only seems like last month when we got dial telephones out in the country where we live.

It is authentic. I had it checked out by some people who do work for CBS.

So was I. Normal mine comes the first of every month without fail, but boy did she come early this month. Still trying to figure it out. Finally got a chance to get all the way through it. Very good issue, and I too liked Mark's article. Very interesting little anecdote.
