Dude in ND, BNSF is having problems keeping people because they don't house you. They pay like 22 an hour starting. Pretty sure you get lots of O/T. They send me one of these every month every first few days of the month. If you work, I doubt you'll get laid off anytime soon here. Here's an excerpt from the email.

Dear Applicant,

As part of the Railway selection process at BNSF, you are required to complete an on-line assessment. This assessment
provides you the opportunity to answer questions about your work experiences and how you would handle certain work
situations. You must answer these questions on your own.

Note: This is a new assessment being launched April 2, 2013. If you have tested for a BNSF job prior to April 2,
you will be required to complete this online assessment.

If you have already completed this new online assessment for a different job after April 1, 2013, you will still need to log in
to the GATE testing system for your name to be included on the list of candidates who completed the assessment for the
current job application. After logging in, you will be informed that you have already completed the test. You will not need
to test again.

The assessment is timed - you will have 30 minutes to complete 75 questions. You should ensure that you have 30
minutes to complete the entire assessment, without distractions, before you begin. Print or save this document.

*TIME EXTENSION*
*IF YOU HAVE ALREADY COMPLETED THIS ASSEMENT PLEASE DISREAD AS THIS IS A REMINDER*

Required Actions
1. You must complete the assessment by 11:59 PM, Eastern time zone, on April 7, 2013 in order to continue to be

BNSF doesn't pay for their employees lodging? What if an employee is forced to ND does the company pay then?

$22 an hour is just about what WalMart pays for checkers in some parts of ND!  Without housing assistance it is a locally substandard wage.

I'd bet that BNSF is wheeling and dealing to maintain their employee staffing.  However, without an insider's information posted here, we are unlikely to find out what they are really doing..

Find a mobile home park and sneak under one at 2am with lights, food, sleeping bags and some tools. When winter comes unhook the hose underneath the floor going from the furnace to the vents and you are warm.

The above story really happened and was on the news in the last year. A co-worker of mine is up there working in construction.
