Randy,
I once woeked with an old head passenger conductor on the Milwaukee Road who had 35 years service. As custom he had the standard service emblems on his left uniform coat sleeve. One star and 2 stripes. While collecting tickets with him one afternoon a lady noticed the service marks and asked him, "What's the star and 2 bars for?" The conductor replied, "That means I'm married and have 2 girlfriends."
