Colorado questions - Glenwood, Gore, De Beque, Ruby canyons - rail phtography
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, September 12, 2004 12:02 AM
I'm going to visit Colorado later this month and need some information on the accessibility of some of these canyons.

I understood Glenwood Canyon is visible from I-70 pull-offs.

DE BEQUE CANYON
How picturesque is it? I saw the area from the Calif. Zephyr recently. Looks like it would be a picturesque area. Any tips on best spots to photo trains from?

RUBY CANYON
Has anyone hiked into it? I have RIO GRANDE SECRET PLACES and have seen all the shots Farewell put in it. All of them look great. I don't need to explore the whole canyon, just get some good shots of the area.

GORE CANYON
I've taken pics from Inspiration Pt. off of Trough Rd.
Has anyone tried getting any closer to the multiple tunnels, the ones that appear in this shot?

I'm wondering if it would be feasible to hike from the Pump House put-in and get some trackside shots of the train.
I'm talking about hiking on the opposite side of the river, to get the river, canyon and train in frame.

What are others' experiences with these areas?

Any help appreciated.
