Several nights ago I saw the tail end of a tv news item about young school kids in the Montreal suburb of either Baie Durfe or Beaconsfield who commute daily to school in Montreal & when getting to Montreal have to take a city bus to school, crossing busy traffic. Some of these kids looked very young ........are there any other trains that offer a similar commute.

In Sydney, Australia, trains are an important part of school transport. There are almost no dedicated school buses in Sydney, although many normal city buses are used during school hours for transporting students. Students are provided with periodical tickets for trains and buses at state government expense.
Many years ago I "commuted" to High School and later University by suburban electric trains in Sydney. It seemed like a good deal to a rail fan. Another great offer was a ticket to travel anywhere within thirty miles of Sydney for ten cents (return ticket) on weekends.

The Shaker Rapid in Shaker Hts OH near Cleveland has been used by school kids for years as well as the Red Line.....In Buffalo the one subway line has about 3,000 high school kids craming it all at once

and why not? A lot of these kids are probably more transit-savvy than a lot of their parents -- and the Montreal system really is excellent (ask Kevin!). Why clutter up the streets and highways with a lot of school buses?
Boston kids use the T all the time, and have for years, ditto New York.

I believe that I saw something a couple years ago on TV that showed school kids riding the train to classes on the Alaska RR. IIRC, they even had a dedicated passenger car for them, and no, it wasn't bright yellow! [:)]
