Camera in the car?

Just wondering how many railfans out there keep a camera in the car for those impromtu shots that you come across.

I pass by tracks regularly, therefore, I always keep a camera with me.

If I'm "thinking ahead", yes. If I'm going somewhere where I don't want to hassle with stashing a camera, I take a "Kodak one-use camera". At least I can get some pictures "for the record" even though they generally are not publication quality.

Since I usually shoot digital now, and also want to be able to "fire buff" as well as document our own fire incidents, the camera is virtually always with me in the truck.

It seems like my digital camera spends more time in the car then it does on my desk, mostly out of lazyness, but more than once I have come across a train when I wasn't expecting it and was able to get some quick shots of it.

I carry a camera with me a lot.
But let me take it out of the car to down load the images into the computer and forget to take with me the next time I go near the RR and sure enough some thing of intrest will show up on the rails.[sigh]

Everywheres I go, I have my cam corder with me.

I keep a digital and usually a still with me. Always one of those with me and usually both, "just in case"!

I keep my Video Camera (Have shot over 7 hours of video the past 4 years) My digital (brand new, only 17 images) and my 35 mm (Over 1,000 plus photos) In my car. I have been able to get shots of BNSF 947, the vomit bonnet, and UP 3300, the united way locomotive. Other items I have shot is SP 100, UP 4000, DRGW 3130, SP 9476 (Final GP60) UP 3985, and of course, Lots of trains.

I usually keep a camera within abotu a 30 second run of me at all times when there's railroad opotunities approcing. When I know I'm getting near a track I'll get my camera out of it's case and turn it on, just in case..........

I should, but I find it hard to subject over $3000 worth of equipment to all the dust and bumps of the many construction sites I usually end up visiting. Not to mention, you never know who you will bump into...
If I had a cheaper camera, I would keep it with me more often. Someday, when I win the lottery.

I take my digital everywhere. Sometimes take the film camera also, depending on the sun. My digital camera sucks in direct sunlight. I took a photo of the L&N building in Louisville when visiting locomutt and cherokee woman and the sun was directly overhead. It came out OK, but I got the pic I wanted.

Wehever I travel nywhere, I'm always sure to bring a camera along with me. You never know what unusual train or great photo oportnity you may come acros.
