An operations question about Amtrak and Talgo
Posted by Mr. Railman on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 5:18 PM

As we all know, Talgo is in the process of closing their shops in Milwaukee and testing their newest sets of equipment, storing them right after.

So why don't they put them into use on the Lincoln Service.

Essentialy, the trains on that operation are the same as the Hiaatha (just going a longer distance), one state would be fubding it (I would see Quinn supporting this), and last but not least, they're a good candidate for 110 MPH operations, which is what they're built for. An addition to either Chicago or St Louis maintenance would more than likely be needed for these sets. And don't forget the added benefits that come with these cars.

The cons are that they're a pretty penny to operate

However, this was found in an Amtrak article

"Leading the ridership increase in the Midwest during the first half of FY 2012 vs. the same period in FY 2011 is the Chicago-St. Louis corridor served by Lincoln Service trains and the Texas Eagle, with a combined ridership gain of 10 percent."

So why isn't Quinn jumping on this decision?
