How Many Locomotives Have You Been On?

This questions excludes railroad employees cause for you guys, the list would go on and on and on. Also not included is rolling stock at a museum either. It has to be actual railroad locomotives on a real railroad in operation and if you can give a location.

One cab ride...B&M from West Cambridge to North Station (Boston) over 30 years ago.
Two or three dozen at museums and railfairs.

Both Soo Line (now WC) and C&NW were in town while I was growing up.

I used to go up to the C&NW yard and ride the local when it was switching. I rode GP20 #4402, 4404, 4408 and many other Geeps. I also once rode in a SOO F-unit when I was about 10, but I don't remember the number. Then they tore up the CNW in 1982 and that was the end of that.

Many,many moons ago;A C&O 2-6-6-6,several GP-7s,GP-9s,a Sperry Rail car.
And yes, before anyone asks about the 2-6-6-6,I am about that old.

2. Two different Amtrak engines at the train show in Syracuse
3. CNY NHRS E-8 (not running at the time), also at Syracuse
None "over the road", though.

My first cab visit was in an Alco PA, in Erie, Pa., 1948. I think it was the Freedom Train, but it could have been just an open house at the GE plant. Ten years later I was in the cab of NKP 2-8-4 777 in Buffalo. In 1959, in Sarnia, Ont., I spent about a half hour riding on a CNR 0-8-0 working the yard. Living near Jamestown, NY in the 1950's I often visited Erie E-8s and GP-7s. Also rode around the yard in the EMD switcher there (SW-?) A fantrip got me into the cab of Southern 4501 in Winchester, VA , 1975. And in 1985, while visiting the yard in Norfolk, I came across N&W 611, in steam, and got a short ride down the track. And now, almost 20 years later, it's time to look into the new generation of diesels.

Several - the highlight was a cab ride in the 2nd unit (SD40-2) on a CPR westbound coal train over the Rogers Pass in BC - From Golden to Revelstoke through the Mt Mcdonald tunnel , also up the grade from Rogers to Glacier & back on a 6 loco pusher set also SD40-2's through the Connaught tunnel on the CPR mainline .

Because I'm the Old Timer, I've been on the following steam wheel arrangements:
0-4-0, 0-4-0T, 0-6-0, 0-8-0, 0-8-0T, 2-6-0, 2-8-0, 2-10-0, 2-8-2, 2-8-4, 2-10-4, 4-6-0, 4-8-0, 4-6-2, 4-8-2, 4-8-4, 2-6-6-2, 2-6-6-4, 2-6-6-6, 2-8-8-2.
Ran some of them, fired some of them, enjoyed every d**n one of them.
Electrics: VGN EL3s, Amtrak GG1s, both over the road.
Ran a few diesels, too, but nothing very new. When I was very young I was allowed to crank up a set of Alco DL109s . . . Rode D&H PA 19 Montreal to Albany. Rode D&H Sharks from Binghamton to Sayre.
Loads of hoots.

CPRail GP 38-2's. 5 or 6 of them, don't have all the numbers, but I know 3004, 3007, and 3039 for sure. This was back in the late 80's when they were running the lumber out of the O.K. Falls Weyerhauser spur at the end of the Princeton Subdivision. Cab rides they were, too, along Skaha Lake. I remember the engineer was Nick Marra and the brakeman was nicknamed Fat Boy. Those guys were sure tolerant of a keen young railnut.
Sorry for all the details here, but those were fun times for a teenager. I have also had the opportunity to move a CN loco, honestly don't know what, about 50 feet down a yard track, with an accommodating engineer giving instructions. I put the engine brakes on too quick and made the cars all come crashing down the slack. Great Fun!

And I thought I was lucky when the Trainmaster at C&Os Shelby yards asked
if I wanted a cab ride through the yards a bunch of years ago.(approx 74-75)[:)]

...Rode none, but have been on one in Kingman, Az....one in Muncie, In....and one in Ligonier, Pa....All steamers. Tried to get through the Freedom Train Diesel [engine], tour back about 1947 in Johnstown, Pa., but gave up....line was too long.

I've been on plenty at railroad museums, but as far as on real railroads, I've only been on two. The first was a CP diesel. I do not know what type it was as I was only 5 years old at the time. It had to have been a GP or SD something, though. I also got a chance to go in the cab of CP SD40-2F 9002 about 6 years ago.
