....Just witnessed a CSX freight heading east on the double track here in Muncie...east / west route. Engines were: CSX....BNSF....[a green and gray one, not sure what it was].....and 2 Amtrak engines.

Engine horsepower doesn't care what paint job is on it when it comes to pulling tonnage.

Most Class I's have power shareing agreements the swap 'horsepower hours' back and forth as an accounting exercise. At the end of the month the computers debit and credit all the hours and a net check may be cut between the carriers as necessary.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!

....And this train didn't need all that power as it only had about 50 cars. Not sure how many engines were active. I suspect the Amtrak engines were in transit...maybe coming from Beechgrove which is a major repair facility. It was headed east away from Indy. But then they really did look crappy if just coming from a repair facility.

...As I stated I had no idea what the situation was with them but they were last in the consist of engines [5], and running elephant style and really looked ratty. The train was headed east...and at about 1:15 pm. Traveling on ex NYC, ex Conrail double track line through Muncie.
This is not the first time I've seen Amtrak engines on a train through here...About 4 or 5 years ago I saw 2 Amtrak engines on a NS freight coming into Muncie from the Frankfort direction....Don't know which direction they were traveling out of Muncie as they have several options on the east and south side and I witnessed them on the west side of town....

To see Amtrak locomotives in a freight consist is rare indeed of course in they weren't headed to Larry's Truck and Electric. We get rare consists all the time up here in Wisconsin on a train that runs between Green Bay and Chicago. We have had WC, CN, BNSF, CSX, NS, UP and others on the same train. Now tell me, is that messed up or what?

....Oh sure many different road engines come through here too on NS and CSX but adding Amtrak engines is a bit different.
