Joe's Gel........(Paint and Decal remover).If you have not tried this stuff you need to. It is fabulous. It will remove your decal and not ruin the paint underneath. This is the best decal remover I have ever used. I found it on e-Bay, and there is a link to this model shop, Joe's Model Trains. Take a look , you will be glad you did.

Even 'tho this is not the right forum for this,where's the link? I have several
cars that I'd only like to take lettering off,not the entire paint job.[:)]

You might want to try Model Railroader forum. And if you look at my
