Get a copy of the July 2012 Trains magazine*, which has this article:

"From Desk to Diesel" by Judy Jenkins - follow the training for one diesel locomotive engineer; plus: the status of women railroaders in 2012.

My daughter would like to pursue a career as a train engineer.  She has an "old" engineer spirit.  I'll be interested in what you report.  There is a lack of information to assist her with this career decision.
