Potential Highway Delays Near Cajon Pass - starting in Sept.

FYI...Interstate 15, which runs through Cajon Pass, will undergo major re-paving this fall south of Devore.

CalTrans (Calif. DOT) will need to close the freeway for extended periods between mid-September and November or beyond(?). the statement is that the freeway will deteriorate too much if it is not repaved before winter.

The original plan for a total shutdown for a 24/7 tear-up and repaving blitz was shot down by the local communities. But the freeway will be closed for long stretches at a time because the new pavement requires over 12 hours to set.

The section of road through Cajon Pass itself will not be closed, but be prepared for long traffic delays once construction begins.

CalTrans will give more details in an announcement on Sept. 1

Hmmm...wonder if Metrolink would be capable of initiating a temporary, or emergency, commuter service from San Bernardino to at least Hesperia, to help out.

Or even Victorville? Would like to see it; don't know if that was suggested (or if Metrolink has the equipment or the RR could handle the extra trains through Cajon Pass). My guess is "no"...

More specific details on I-15 are available from the Caltrans website:

http://www.dot.ca.gov/dist8/i15devore

A number of links therein describes the project and its impact, plus alterative routing. Maps are shown.

K. P.,
Thanks for posting the link.

And CShaveRR, the Oct. 04 Trains pretty much verifies that the answer is "no" for running Metrolink over Cajon Pass, as that is one of the congested routes listed on p. 15.
