UP trains on the BNSF transcon? again!
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, August 27, 2004 1:43 AM
in the past week i have seen 3 different Union Pacific trains in Arizona on the BNSF "Transcon" one of them was heading east, just west of Peach Springs AZ, the other one i saw yesterday just coming into Ludlow CA heading east.

a few months ago i saw one heading west leaving Gallup NM and a friend of mine saw the same one in Falgstaff a little while later.

anyone know why the UP is using the BNSF tracks?

Well, I waited and no one bit on this.

Probably either construction and rerouting with BNSF blessing - or run-thru power - I owe you, you owe me - we can play nice and use each others tracks - for a price!

OR - BNSF wants to try ou the Armour Yellow to go with their Norange! (Ugh)

it could be rerouting. i remember a while ago there were BNSF trains using the old Rock/SP sunshine route. i saw quite a few of them heading between Tucumcari and Santa Rosa NM. so maybe they are letting the UP use their line as repayment.

both of the trains i saw last week consisted of UP and CSX locomotives and they were both stack trains with a wide variety of containers, but they were mostly containers that only the UP hauls (like APL)
