It would be Conrail if they were still around. Now we have NS, who operate pretty much nothing around here, and CSX who can be interesting sometimes. Probably have to choose them for a favorite road.

i'd have to agree w/the ex-RI...aka...Iowa Interstate. even though it looks like the cars are gonna rock 'n roll right off the rails...(man, the tracks look bad!) it's nice seeing at least 2 trains a day thru the IL valley. on a really un-related note. the railroad i would have liked to see is the milwaukee, rock island and the Illinois central all in one...up north, down south and everywhere in between.

I am a CMSt.P& P fan...but since it's a modern survey...I'll go BNSF. For the sole reason that they put ballast down and kept up a line to spite the great metropolitan planners who have marked it to become a busway. The same group apparently doesn't realize this branch line runs along one of MN's most congested highways...is along a booming group of suburbs...this screams for commuter rail but they're in denial. GO BNSF!

Always has and always will be Elgin, Joliet & Eastern... Big road flare, with small road personality. It's can't be beat. :-)

The CB&Q, Milwaukee Road, Wbash, and Rock Island will always be my favorites, but since only today's roads can be chosen I'll say BNSF, Wisconsin & Southern, Kansas City Southern and Iowa Interstate. Basically any Midwestern regional, plus the two class ones I stated.

Union Pacific and if it was still around, Wisconsin Central. They will always be number one. But for running railroads, I do stick with the UP.

Norfolk Southern. Those black and white locomotives have really grown on me in the last year or so.

NS!!! I dont know, something about a relatively clean black SD70 with a white eyebrow racing down the line at road speed. That, and the occasional CR! Yeah!
