We are very sorry to hear of Curt's death. He and his wife welcomed Mark and I as if we were old friends when we first met them. Our sympathy goes to his family and friends. TRAINS may have lost a contributor, but the world just lost the presence of a genuinely nice and good man.He will be missed.

Trains Correspondent Curt Richards Passes Away

Friday's News Wire reported that Curt died on Feburary 1.  Curt originated the idea of the "Map of the Month " feature and often had the by-line for the feature.

I first met Curt shortly after the feature was started and would often see him at various rail events around the country.  It was always a delight to engage him in a conversation about railroads and maps.

Matt Van Hattem put it best.  "Curt’s background in geography gave him a unique way of thinking about railroads, and his passion for the industry was infectious, He was a born teacher, always upbeat and personable, and he loved sharing his knowledge of railroads and geography with others.”

"We have met the enemy and he is us." Pogo Possum "We have met the anemone... and he is Russ." Bucky Katt "Prediction is very difficult, especially if it's about the future." Niels Bohr, Nobel laureate in physics
