I just got the latest SOFA working group update, Since 1992 nine fatalitys have occured in September. The next three months are traditionally the highest risk for RR employees. Lets watch our fellow employees and stay safe !!!!!!!!

You've got that right Randy! At my home terminal we are already under the spotlight because we've had two human factor derailments that occured on the same day in two different places about two weeks ago. There was also someone who got hit with a dumping air hose in the mouth resulting in a broken jaw and a not so nice smile. Luckily no one has been killed or hurt badly, but I stress to anyone I train; work at your own speed, don't let an old head try to rush you because they want the quit. My reputation is starting to form as someone who likes overtime; I don't delay the train or anything, but you better belive I take my time!!!! Last month in Barr Yard, Chicago I was effieciency tested twice for a basket-full of rules and I passed them all, so even though you don't see them, they're watching!!! That's the other reason I take my time and double check everything because I know I could be being watched at any time.

We tend to have more touble in the winter statistically, but you never know. Safety can never take a day off.

I have always believed that danger lies in the familiar. It's easy to become lax when you have done something a million times and are doing it the one milion and oneth time.

When I was in the navy, the catch frase that was used over and over until it was drilled into our heads was, "Attention to detail", which says it all.

When I went to school for diesel technology, one of my teachers also had a good saying, " The Iron is stupid, you have to think for it"

When I was slinging cargo in the navy, once there was a guy that was standing next to a forktruck with solid wheels that was picking up a load that we had just pulled the slings. As the truck backed up, the wheel ran over his boot. The wheel only went along the edge of his boot, but it cinched down the steel toe over his toes, even the best protection sometimes is not enough.

I may not be a rail worker, but my heart goes out, stay safe !

i'm not gun-ho on saftey issues myself- i guess as it's starts getting colder it becomes more dangerous.
