I know they are common in certain places. But I've been here for nearly three years, and that was the first time I've seen ANY auto racks. Don't get me wrong- down South of here from say Everett and into the ports of Seattle and Tacoma would be a different story. But an entire train~ way up here just seemed odd to me.

Here on the Ft. Scott sub they use to be a rare occurrence. They have been steadily increased since about summer 2010. And I have noticed since about may of last year a decline in coal traffic.

Solid trains of auto racks a fairly common as most are going to one location such as an auto plant or a port or some other terminal , usually a maxium of 80 cars.

Yup- just saw it with my own two eyes!!! I've never seen anything like it- thought it was interesting.

I lost count, but I'd say there were at least 30 cars in this train, pulled by two locos.

It was headed north on the Bellingham Sub. I am just south of Custer- at Grandview Rd.
