Decatur Al. is the place for you to visit. All NS trains through Huntsville also go through Decatur. The NS and CSX have a joint line across the Tennessee River into Decatur. On the south side of the river, the line splits and the NS turns west and the CSX continues south. There is an old station site at this point and according to my railfan friends in Memphis, this is the place to be. NS handles Union Pacific PRB coal trains which go to Macon Georgia.

I will be in Huntsville Alabama this May visiting relatives and would like to do some train watching in the area while I am there. I have never been there before. SPV's RR Atlas doesn't show much in the immediate area, though it looks like Decatur might be good. Can anyone from the area direct me to any good local hot spots? Thanks.
